Pipe Band Newsletter...
Ingersoll Pipe Band Newsletter - April 2007 - By Mary Ellen Muterer
2007 has gotten off to a good start for the Ingersoll Pipe Band. We have already completed 3 events; quite successfully we think.
We began our year off (fittingly on January 1st) with our annual New Year’s Levee Legion cruise (try saying that 3 times fast). Some of our members entertained at the Legions in Ingersoll and Woodstock and also at Woodstock’s CAW hall. They were very popular at these events and the crowds raved about how good the band was (or so the stories we have heard go).
Second on our list was our annual Robbie Burns’ Dinner held on January 27th. Thank you to all those who peeled, cooked, baked, decorated, served, cleaned up and entertained. With all your help we made over $1500 and entertained and fed about 150 people.
Our third engagement was the Business Achievement Awards in London. We have played this event a number of years now–none so successful as this year though. No broken glassware in our wake–safer but not as exciting.? We had 8 pipers and 3 drummers entertain at the black tie event. Gail wowed the crowd with his 5 minute drum solo to call all those attending to their seats.
We are off to a good start. At the end of the newsletter you will find a list of the events we have coming up. Please try to book as many of the dates as possible.
BAND BUSINESS
The new Board of Directors was installed at the Annual General meeting. There were not many changes made to the board, with the only positions to change being those of: President-Dave Presswell and Vice President-Jon Arthur.
A new award has been created by our Attendance officer Warren Wright. The award for Best combined attendance at practice and parades for 2006 has been presented to Mary Ellen (I thought this was important to mention). While we are on the subject of attendance please check your stats that Warren has posted on the bulletin board at the hall. Could you do better??? Please remember if you are unable to come to practice you need to give someone in the band a call so they can let Warren know. He records these things. PLEASE CALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please make sure you have received a copy of our new band tune “The Atholl and Breadalbane Gathering” and start practicing. Also, check to see you have an updated Band Tune list. If everyone on parade can play all the tunes on the list it makes it easier for the Pipe Major to call a tune and not be greeted with “NO” or a dreadful sound or eerie silence.
The band has been giving service pins to members who have given the band 5 years of service or more. These pins are usually given out at the Christmas Banquet. I want to make sure everyone has the service pin to which they are entitled. In April please check a list that will be posted on the bulletin board to ensure that I have you down for the correct pin and that you have received it.
The Band would like to congratulate our drummer Christine Ebel and Mike Yeoman on their February wedding. All our best to the both of you and to your family.
