We
have had a successful start to our parade season. Victoria Day saw us, once
again, in Woodstock and Thamesford. There were a few blisters (mostly on Christine’s
feet) but everyone seems to have made out o.k. Congratulations to Winston
Kooistra for becoming our newest member. He seems like he will fit in very
well – 2 parades his first time out, he is as crazy as the rest of us!!
Winston was also part of the group who traveled to Indianapolis this year.
According to the stories going around, a good time was had by all (so more
than others). Some members are already in the running for the Cruiser trophy,
which is very exciting. Other exciting events in Indy occurred when some of
our members met some celebrities. Two actors from Grey’s Anatomy (nicknamed
McDreamy and McSteamy) were a big hit especially with the female members.
(Oh, they’re Scottish, that must be the draw). Some members also got
their picture taken with race car driver, Dario Franchetti and his wife actress
Ashley Judd, at the parade. He went on to win the race the next day. I am
sure he will recognize who his good luck charms were and will want the band
on the race circuit with him next.
That same weekend some of us who didn’t go to Indy played a shorter parade in Ingersoll. We played the Legion to the Anglican church. We didn’t meet many celebrities (unless you count the Mayor) but were still a hit with our fans (two people said they enjoyed our playing).
We have also played for the residents at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, for the 30th Anniversary of the Ingersoll Museum and for the Relay for Life so far this summer. Please take note of the upcoming events section and copy down as many dates as you can to keep the momentum going.
BAND BUSINESS
We are still waiting for the trees we are planting in memory of Mr. MacKay and Dave Moyer. Hopefully soon!!
With the remainder of the money left in their memory we are going to install some ceiling fans in the drill hall this summer.
We are investigating the cost of refinishing the drill hall floor. We will probably hire someone to do it this summer. Also being discussed is the painting of the hall walls. We will let you know when we need your help.
I have, once again, run out of time to print a quiz (sorry, I know how you love them so!) I will make sure I put one together and get it out to you before the end of July. Please remember that practice and parade attendance is still taken during the summer. Please let the PM or DM or attendance officer (Warren) know if you will be away from practice. Please, please, please!!! All it takes is one phone call or, if you know in advance, just tell us then and you won’t need to hurt your dialing finger.
Get ready for a great summer!
